A new study in symmetry suggests that the behaviour exhibited in a test measuring brain lateralization is predictive of the side bias exhibited by zebrafish in a 2-choice discrimination task. Lateralized individuals tended to turn to a preferred side of the experimental tank regardless of extensive training, making it difficult to understand whether these individuals have the cognitive abilities to solve the task.

A new study on bioRxiv suggests that working memory and exploration-search strategy changes are both impaired in aged zebrafish. Acute exposure to a selective dopamine D1/D5 receptor partial agonist, enhanced working memory in aging, but had no detectable effect on behavioural flexibility.
